Hewlett-Packard's (HP's) Trusted Hardcopy is under development in HP's India research and development (R&D) lab and is a system to prevent hardcopy forgery attempts by using equipment as simple as some software, a scanner, and a computer. A barcode is meant to become a digital signature, to bring network level security to the realm of paper, according to an HP company document. HP expects Trusted Hardcopy to meet the needs of government agencies, public offices, and companies. One expected application is registration of land ownership. India is a very large and growing market for the company, says a spokesperson for the lab in India, who adds that India is beginning from a relatively low IT base. The technology industry in India should expand to $110 billion by 2011, and HP is India's largest seller of PCs based on units sold, with a 21 percent market share, says IDC. HP's focus is on research in India, Russia, China, and other countries, and the company plans to invent products that meet local needs and can also be sold in other markets. HP's TVPrintCast is under development and sends data over TV networks, with a set-top box receiving data so the consumer can print out the information. Indian company Novatum Solutions is currently selling Nova netTV, which permits desktop computing on a TV.
