Yahoo! has announced its inking of deals with six mobile carriers in Asia to use the Yahoo! oneSearch-web-based search service as the default engine on their mobile portals. Yahoo! also announced that an improved version of its cellphone software suite is available in the U.S. and showed test versions in a bakers dozen other countries. Users can download the Yahoo! go for Mobile application to make various web-based Yahoo! services for computer users also available from mobile devices. Go will run on more than 200 phone models by the end of July and 400 models by the end of 2007 globally, said Yahoo!. Availability to consumers will depend on agreements with wireless carriers. Asian mobile operators inking deals with Yahoo! are Globe Telecom of the Philippines, Idea Cellular of India, LG Telecom of South Korea, Maxis Communications in Malaysia, PT Telekomunikasi Selular in Indonesia, and Taiwan Mobile. Localized versions of the service will be tested in Canada, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Spain, the United Kingdom, Thailand, and Vietnam. Go for Mobile has been requested by more than three million people. Go will be made available with some important improvements, including the ability to open common attachments such as Word, Excel, and Portable Document Format (PDF) files. Also to be added is the ability to gain access to and file e-mails in folders. The new Local and Maps service will provide satellite maps and real-time information on traffic.
