Several TV networks have tried to convince the host of popular radio show titled This American Life to bring the program to TV, but none of the ideas worked out, except for that from Showtime. Public Radio Internationals This American Life is enjoyed by over a million and a half listeners every week because of its unusual stories and fascinating people. Ira Glass, host of the radio program, has for years turned down proposals to make a TV version of the radio show. Glass made it clear that TV networks should first make a proposal that will ensure that the TV adaptation would work. Glass finally made a deal with Showtime, which brought in people from Killer Films, the maker Boys Dont Cry and Far From Heaven, to work on the TV adaptation. The radio show consists of intimate interviews, some underscoring and bits of commentaries. In the six-episode season for TV, some materials were derived from the radio show and some original stories will be presented. The season will include the unfortunate story of pet cloning gone wrong as well as the story of a woman who tries to make stand-up comedy material out of her boyfriends death on September 11. The idea was to use images to take the place that music plays in the radio version. Instead of using reality TV approach of constantly moving cameras and chaotic movements, the producers chose to clean and aesthetic shots as well as abstract images to highlight the stories.
