While Microsoft Corp. introduced Windows Vista and Office 2007 in January 2007, the company is not yet finished with implementing innovations and altering the new user interface of its Office family of products. The new ribbon user interface is expected to be used in other applications that did not get the change in Office 2007, according to Chris Capossela, corporate vice president of the Microsoft Business Division Product Management Group. Since users have generally given positive feedback on the ribbon interface, the company plans to bring the same ribbon to other Office applications in the future. These applications will include One Note, Project, and Visio. Microsoft learned valuable lessons by focusing on the authoring experience and will apply this experience to other aspects of Office and the way Office can be utilized by customers, says Capossela. He does not believe user interface innovations are completed, stating that the work Microsoft has done in Office 2007, and the reception of the product to date, have made his team even more excited about users' ability to advance. Capossela also confirmed that there are no current plans to 'productize' Scout, an Office 2007 search add-in. He says Scout is, at present, a 'cool internal project' from Microsoft Research and that it 'shows off' some search technology.
