Strategix Vision's Embrace Heart Stabilizer is a device that can hold the heart and coronary artery in position during coronary bypass surgery so that the surgeon can bypass a blocked artery without being required to stop the heart and maintain the patient on a heart-lung machine. This ability makes the procedure less risky, less invasive, and conducive to a shorter recovery time for the patient. The Embrace gives the surgeon more room to work because of a compact design and also provides improved overall access to the chest cavity. The Embrace was developed in a collaboration between Strategix Vision, Herbst LaZar Bell, and the CardioVations division of Ethicon, which is a Johnson & Johnson company. The Embrace is marketed by CardioVations. Describing the collaboration is Kent Swendseid of Strategix Vision, who cites the advantage of having an already-established relationship with CardioVations, as well as a common semantic design and usability language. The team began with Photoshop and Illustrator for early conceptual studies and then went to design in SolidWorks, which was used with the Nvidia Quadro FX professional graphics card. Both software developers have CardioVations and Strategix Vision users, so team members could share files for review and develop the design. Mr. Swendseid said Strategix Vision's passion is to create relevance and a great experience for the user by reaching beyond the functional requirements of a product and into its meaning.
