Bebo's and Facebook's eponymous businesses are among social networking entities highlighted in a discussion of eBay's bid for the younger auction attendees at social networking sites. eBay wants to get the loyalty of a younger demographic in a highly creative say, says a spokesman for Bebo, which is a site from which eBay plans to offer lists of items that visitors would sell or purchase on eBay. Clicking an item would take Bebo users to the eBay site, thereby increasing eBay visitorship. eBay has also been in discussions with MySpace and has inked a deal with Facebook. Facebook members, who are often college-age, can search for used textbooks on a special eBay-sponsored Student Superstore page on Facebook. They can join a group associated with the page, search for and buy items, and be connected to the eBay main site. A high-school student interviewed says he used the Facebook link to go to eBay, which he has used before. He wanted to search for a cellphone and could link from Facebook to eBay without opening a new browser window. eBay spokesman Brad Williams notes that each effort is a different deal, and that eBay is always at the table with possible partners and continues to make deals. He says deals with social networking companies to reach the younger audience are not especially significant strategically for eBay, but does say any deal with MySpace could possibly be more significant.
