Relentless zero-day attacks from sophisticated online criminals keep anti-virus companies busy 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This is because stand-alone, signature-based anti-virus software is not effective anymore and provides no relief to worried IT managers. Anti-virus protection at the network or desktop level is no match against malware attacks because of hackers abilities to utilize new packers or to fine-tune their codes. Integrated products with multiple capabilities such as endpoint policy enforcement, anti-spyware and personal firewall are the preferred response of industry leaders such as McAfee, Trend Micro, and Symantec. Meanwhile, Moscows Kaspersky Lab relies on a team of woodpeckers to hunt computer threats in real-time. The crew of founder Eugene Kaspersky works the whole day to write and deliver signatures to its countless computer users. Anti-virus signatures are sent to its clients every hour on the hour, seven days a week and throughout the year. Kaspersky Lab sells new protection suites that provide savings to users, are bundled in one console, and offer configuration and patch management as well as data leak prevention. An industry analyst warns small players like Kaspersky Lab as well as leaders in the anti-virus market to watch out for Microsoft, which has launched security enhancements in Windows Vista.
