Title: S.F. State Recruits Students Where They Live--MySpace

Author: Schevitz, Tanya Article Type: Product Analysis

E. L. Jones, admissions counselor with Roanoke Bible College in North Carolina, says MySpace and Facebook are useful for their flexibility and because they are easy to update with photos, videos, and seasonal application information by admissions counselors. Students visit them frequently to communicate with friends and to connect with other students who attend colleges in which they are interested. Roanoke Bible College, as part of an effort to increase enrollment, added a MySpace page about five months ago and posted photos and videos of campus events. Most teenagers, said Jones, are on the Internet two hours each day after school, and they usually check MySpace first. The more that the college has on its MySpace page, the more students will check it. San Francisco State also put up its MySpace page and is the largest among the increasing number of colleges and universities to do so. Others include the Boston University College of Communication and Graduate Admissions to Hiram College in Ohio. San Francisco State began its MySpace page after Voltaire Villanueva of the colleges networking staff attended a conference called 100 Ways to Effectively Recruit Todays Students.
