IBM is focused in structuring its services unit by tapping on new and existing products and technologies. Robin Morris job is to make things happen at the companys research unit. He previously headed IBMs Almaden Research Center in Silicon Valley beginning in 2004 where he was responsible for Global Services. Morris is back at IBMs research center to ensure the organization shifts its focus from relying on individual consultants skills to adoption of standardized technologies and processes. For instance, IBM tapped its technology to infuse existing fraud management innovation in a project for a claims management system for an insurance company. Services products were introduced in September 2006 that highlight the companys standard methods and processes. A network convergence bundle aims to guide customers in convergence readiness, and an IP telephony product is geared towards IP telephony design, deployment and management. The Global Services, which oversees services engagements, reported $47.4 billion or 52 percent of the companys $91.1 billion yearly revenue. However, this is not the same case in terms of profitability for IBMs services engagement, which registered a 28 percent profit margin in the most recent quarter compared to 38 percent for hardware and 85 percent for software. The companys initiatives in services engagements are aimed at making the unit increase its bottom line through asset innovation.
