Yahoo! Inc. is developing a new version of its Messenger product that will be aimed specifically at the new Microsoft Windows Vista operating system created by Microsoft Corp. Yahoo! used the Windows Presentation Foundation framework to construct dynamic features on top of the core communications features of Messenger, according to Jeff Bonforte, senior director for Real Time Communications at Yahoo!. The firm's current plan is to make a public beta version of the product available in the second quarter of 2007 and to release the final version at the end of the year, said Matthew Skyrm, director of product management for Yahoo! Messenger. The company also intends to introduce a Messenger blog where users can share feedback with Yahoo!. Since most new computers will begin shipping with Windows Vista after January 29, 2007, Yahoo!'s team began planning for the Vista version of Messenger about one year ago. They realized that the current Messenger, which is optimized for Windows XP, would not be comfortable in the Vista environment. The firm decided that a minimal revision was not enough and began to work closely with Microsoft to build a Yahoo! Messenger especially for Vista. The new version will have a cinematic user interface and be optimized around the new user experience brought by Vista.
