Title: 'Are You Tired?' a Web Designer Asks. Don't Get Me Started

Author: Vara, Vauhini Article Type: Product Analysis
Source: Wall Street Journal, v248 n139 pB1(1) Publication Date: Dec 13, 2006

According to Mike Kuniavsky, the owner of the website Tired.com, the top written words among 250 known most-written words in messages received by the site are work, at 39, school, at 77, house, at 190, money, at 191, family, at 217, sick, at 226, and kids, at 250. Mr. Kuniavsky has an inbox with more than 42,000 messages from overworked kids, overwhelmed parents, and other fatigued Web surfers. Many say they dont get enough sleep, but many also described life situations that create fatigue, including job dissatisfaction and pressures of school, homework, and after school activities. Romantic woes are also commonly described, as people use the Internet to exchange life scenarios with strangers. They may provide reviews of favorite books and eateries, share photos, and describe themselves on dating sites. Such sites as PostSecret.com and NotProud.com urge visitors to reveal their secrets on public message boards. Mr. Kuniavsky, a social scientist, specializes in research into how people use the Internet, and he has founded not only Tired.com, but also the Adaptive Path Web design company and the product design studio called ThingM. The look and feel of Tired.com has not changed in the nine years it has been available, and it has an old-fashioned look that could make people worry about security, which could explain why the site receives only about a third the number of e-mails it got in 2004.
