Online advertising provides benefits beyond those available in traditional ad campaigns. Companies that do not implement interactive marketing strategies may lose their competitive edge. A growing number of advertisers are drawn to online spaces because of the depth of interaction with customers that can occur. Advertisers also like the ability to track the behavior of target populations closely. The proliferation of broadband Internet services together with better advertising technologies spurred online advertising to a growth rate of more than 35 percent since 2004, according to PricewaterhouseCoopers. The Internet is expected to be the fastest-growing advertising medium in the future as well, with a projected increase of 18.1 percent by 2010. Online video advertisements have an even more rapid growth rate, with estimates of spending for online video ads increasing to $1.5 billion by 2009, according to eMarketer. Companies are experimenting with new technologies to compliment their other ad campaigns. Technologies that allow advertisers to reach target audiences with less expense and more precision are especially prized. Therefore, advertisers are especially interested in virtual environments, blogs, Wikis, online voting campaigns, RSS, and video sharing. These technologies are becoming an integral part of the advertising business.
