Xerox's DocuShare CPX 5.01 gets very good marks overall for collection, routing, and tracking of documents; user-friendly, browser-based interfaces; and robust abilities for meeting management, interactive content, and group collaboration. DocuShare CPX 5.01 competes more directly with Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server 2003 than with large-scale management systems such as FileNet (which has been acquired by IBM) and EMC Documentum. When compared with SharePoint Portal Server 2003, DocuShare shines with the ability to support collaboration and group interaction and also by providing more powerful document management abilities than provided by SharePoint. Unlike Windows-based SharePoint, the Java Server-based DocuShare CPX 5.01 runs on most server platforms and is not tied to Microsoft Office or Internet Explorer (IE) for its collaboration abilities. Xerox promotes DocuShare CPX 5.01 as a business process management (BPM) product, and the solution does have good rules and routing options for control of document and form-based activity flow. DocuShare CPX 5.01 has no support for core BPM standards, including business process execution language (BPEL) and also lacks the advanced orchestration needed for genuine BPM. Testers regard DocuShare CPX 5.01 as one of the better solutions they have seen for document-centered enterprise content management. DocuShare CPX 5.01 has new integrated wiki and blogging features that will be useful for basic internal enterprise use, but do not compete with dedicated wiki or blogging applications.
