Salesforce.com, the leader in on-demand software, has introduced a service designed to make it easier for companies to create advertising for search engines and then monitor how effective these advertisements are at attracting customers. The firm introduced Salesforce for Google AdWords in August 2006. The service allows customers to create keyword-based advertising for Google. It also allows them to track business leads on the basis of an advertisement. Companies can track the number of clicks its ad on Google receives and then monitor the sales brought in by the ad. This new service offering by Salesforce.com indicates how important search-engine advertising is for companies. According to Kendall Collins, vice president of product marketing at Salesforce.com, the offering revolutionizes the ability of marketers to drive higher returns for their investment. The on-demand business software market is seeing greater competition, as NetSuite, a rival of Salesforce.com, also has developed a product to track and manage search-engine marketing campaigns. NetSuite's Keyword Marketing Module offers another powerful tool for search-engine marketers. Salesforce.com developed its product through the acquisition of Kieden, a software firm formed in 2005. The on-demand business software market, of which Salesforce.com is the leader, allows business customers to obtain access to Web-based services for a subscription fee.
