Electronic Arts recently gave journalists a look at many of the titles that will make up the 20 games that will be in its fall lineup. Electronic Arts has been working on the games, which will be available by the holidays, for months, if not years. Each year, new games and sequels have to outdo their predecessors and competing games from other companies. When a new and more robust set of platforms, such as the PlayStation 3, Microsoft Xbox 360, and Nintendo Wii, enter the picture, the work is even harder. The new systems entail many challenges and also offer many new opportunities to best past games. For instance, advanced hardware allows the face of Tiger Woods in Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 to look more than life-like than ever with a new technology from Electronic Arts called UCAP (universal capture). A blending of more conventional motion capture photography and video allows the software to chart points on Tiger's face and blends it with real video from three different camera angles. This generates the most accurate portrait of a player ever, says D. J. Powers, an associate e producer for Electronic Arts. The second of the next-generation Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 releases has twice the content has double the content with a dozen courses, 20 golfers, and three-times larger crowds that respond to golfers. An aiming system was created that would not allow players to pinpoint their shot and which required players to shoot to a target area determined by player skill and club choice. Also discussed is the work of a team led by Larry LaPierre, executive producer for the Need for Speed Carbon street-racing franchise. For instance, the most recent installment, which will be available in autumn, includes canyon racing.
