Advanced electronic data capture (EDC) systems continue to evolve as clinical trial designs become more complex and sophisticated. EDC systems are moving beyond basic data management to meet the demands of complicated trial designs. Ninaza, a sophisticated EDC system, offer a number of interactive case report form (CRF) techniques to improve the experience of users. Traditional paper-based CRF allowed for logical data entry into the form, but most existing EDC systems imposed significant limits on CRF design by forcing the design into question-and-answer pairs that are organized in a strict vertical fashion. At the same time, the EDC systems require that the entry of data be performed by site coordinators who have the knowledge to appreciate the logical design of the CRF. To leverage data entry more efficiently, modern EDC systems allow for full CRF options and further enhance data entry by providing flexible hide-and-show and enable-and-disable logic to individual fields, field groups, or entire CRFs. EDC software must run all data entry validation upon data entry in order to maximize the quality of the entry. The immediate feedback reduces the time needed to clean up data later on. Effective EDC systems should also provide all relevant data entry and validation on one page. The most adaptive system available can handle multilingual and multicultural features, being fully internationalized and localized.
