China has started to manufacture new PC models for major computer makers. The new PCs are small and portable, and they are designed to lighten the load of business travelers at affordable prices. Testers examined models from Hewlett-Packard (HP) and Lenovo. HP's Compaq nc2400 is the company's first ultra-portable laptop computer. This computer is a solid model that is less than one inch thick; with a six-cell battery, the weight totals 3.8 pounds. This computer has a small footprint for the desktop or airline tray. It offers very good battery life at four hours and 27 minutes. This Hewlett-Packard computer also has excellent screen resolution. Another ultra-portable that is soon to be on the market is the Lenovo 3000 V100. In terms of speed, the Lenovo model offers more than the HP, but in terms of weight, size, and battery life, the HP outshines the Lenovo computer. The Lenovo is 1.25 inches thick, and with a six-cell battery, it weighs 4.1 pounds. The battery in the Lenovo lasted only two hours and 41 minutes. The Lenovo comes with an Intel Core Duo and runs at 2 GHz. Both the HP and the Lenovo include built-in fingerprint readers. The Lenovo also has a built-in camera. For about the same price, users can choose the HP and get a smaller footprint and better battery life, or they can select the Lenovo, which offers faster speeds, more power, and more storage space.
