Among eight tested Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) suites are BEA systems AquaLogic Service Bus 2.1, Oracle's Oracle SOA Suite, and TIBCO Software's BusinessWorks 5.3. The eight products were tested to determine which was the most agile. In this instance, the term agile refers to the abilities to do a business process modification without code and to modify the internal workings of a business service without impacting clients and services that depend on a changed service. The agile system will, for instance, allow a customer lookup service to be changed to use, for example, an Oracle database from a COBOL copybook, in a way that is fully transparent to the client. AquaLogic Service Bus 2.1 gets the highest overall marks with the best possible marks for routing and management/configuration. Oracle also had excellent marks for management/configuration, but only AquaLogic and Cape Clear ESB 6.5 got excellent marks for integration of Web services. AquaLogic Service Bus 2.1 had the lowest marks for adapter support, while TIBCO Software BusinessWorks 5.3 AND IBM WebSphere Message Broker 6.0 got excellent marks in that category. AquaLogic also outdid the other seven products for cost, while IBM and Fiorano came in with the least cost advantages. Fiorano Software SOA 2006 Platform 3.7 earned the highest marks for transformations and mappings. Only AquaLogic and Sonic SOA Suite 6.1 lack support for AIX, and all the products support generic JMS, Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) consumer, SOAP producer, HTTP/S, and the Linux and Microsoft Windows operating systems (OSs).
