Adobe Macromedia's Macromedia Studio 8, a software suite that includes Flash Professional 8, Dreamweaver 8, and Fireworks 8, in addition to Contribute 3 and FlashPaper 2, gets excellent marks, especially for better drawing tools and blend models and the addition of Flash video. Flash Professional 8 provides many of the new abilities, particularly for animators and designers. Instead of an emphasis on scripts, most of the new features are attuned to the needs of digital content producers. Strokes can now be joined easily, and users have more choices for capping the ends. Also described are a new undo feature that permits setting of undo on a document or object-based track, implementations in libraries (including multiple open projects and the ability to goggle among their associated libraries, an ease-in-ease-out graph, new antialiased text modes (which significantly improve the readability of fonts in projects at small point sizes), and Flash video). It has never been easier to incorporate video into Flash movies than with this Macromedia Studio 8 feature, and full support is provided for alpha channels so that users can drop out the background of a video and have only talent walking around and talking, while everything else is keyed out. Overall, Macromedia Studio 8 is an excellent value because it provides tools for Web development, animation, and bitmap/vector creation.
