IBMs Domino Server 7 and Lotus Notes, released in late 2005 provide a loaded set of messaging, collaboration and database application features. There are six different licensing options. For smaller organizations, IBM offers lower cost Express versions. Domino compares favorably to Novel GroupWise 7.0 and Microsofts Exchange 2003. Most of the improvements to the Lotus software are for the development or IT administrative team. Domino Server 7 runs on several operating systems and servers. Lotus Notes is well integrated into IBMs instant messaging and web conferencing product, Lotus Sametime 7. To help manage junk email, Domino now supports private whitelists, blacklists and domain whitelists. Domino has a web-based counterpart, called Domino Web Access for at-home email and calendar access. Lotus Notes only runs on Windows 2000 or XP. Using the Domino Web Access, Mac and Linux users can use their Mozilla browsers. With this new version, Notes application data can be stored in the DB2 Universal Database. Note now can automatically reopen a window that the user had open the last time they logged out. The resource and room scheduling has also been improved. New shortcuts have been created as well as new icons for ease of use.
