ShoreTel's ShoreTel 6 IP private branch exchange (PBX) gets excellent marks, especially for features, management, implementation, and value. The ShoreTel 6 series of IP PBX products is very easy to use and manage and has features that on other phone systems would be separately priced, including the automated attendant, which can predict hold times. ShoreTel 6 integrates effectively with legacy phone systems and legacy voicemail. However, no support is provided for Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) phones. ShoreTel 6, a group of IP PBX products, includes ShoreGear Voice Switches, ShoreWare Director V.6, and other components. Three ShoreTel 6 Voice Switch configurations are available, and each is designated by the number of Voice over IP (VoIP) versus analog users they will support. For instance, the ShoreGear 120/24 describes support for 120 IP users or 24 analog users (but not both). The Voice Switch is the physical platform for the PBX, and ShoreWare Director provides management abilities on a Windows platform with the ability to communicate with the voice switch through the network. The optional and recommended ShoreTel Call Manager software permits users to manage their own phones within parameters set by the system administrator. The ShoreTel 6 system supports SIP for trunking but not SIP phones. It will support some third-party SIP products, and ShoreTel intends to provide full SIP support in the future.
