Dell's Axim X51v and Hewlett-Packard's (HP's) iPaq rx1950 are compared handhelds that run Microsoft Windows Mobile 5, which is the best version yet. The Axim X51v tested is in preproduction and is not rated. Hardware features make the affordable device more appealing to power-famished mobile users. Top of the line hardware included are a 624MHz Intel XScale processor, Intel 2700 handheld graphics accelerator with 16MB memory for better video streaming, 256MB flash ROM, 64MB SDRAM, SD Card and CompactFlash slots, and a full 640x480 VGA 3.7-inch display. The iPaq rx1950, also a preproduction model that is not rated, weighs only 4.4 ounces and is also smaller and slimmer than the Axim. Hardware includes a 300MHz Samsung CPU, 64MB ROM, 32MB SDRAM, an SD Card slot, and a 3.5-inch 240x320 QVGA display. The iPaq rx1950 is a good value for those who dont demand too much of a connected handheld. Both the Axim X51v and the iPaq rx1950 have removable, rechargeable lithium ion batteries, and the Dell includes a recharging cradle with a slot for a spare battery. The iPaq rx1950 hooks up through a straightforward Universal Serial Bus (USB) cable. Both devices rendered almost perfectly for Word and Excel documents, and testers had no difficulty using Windows Media 10 Mobile to load and play tunes from the Rhapsody subscription service.
