Microsoft Xbox 360, the release of which will be followed by the next Sony PlayStation and Nintendo's Gamecube, has three 3.2GHz processors and an ATI graphics card to provide more performance than most desktop computers. A new selection of games designed for the Xbox 360 includes all the genres that have been dominated by the PC market. There are first-person shooters, massively multiplayer role-playing games, and more exciting versions of driving and sports games. An analyst says the consoles can no longer be called underpowered since they offer photorealistic game play, high-definition, and surround sound support. However, game PC-makers and competitors Alienware (which provides ALX) and Voodoo (the developer of the ARIA media center) are not worried. Rahul Sood of Voodoo says PCs always substantially surpass consoles within a year. Voodoo and Alienware custom-build PCs for gamers, who tell the companies what games they want to play and how much they wants to pay. The game PC makers explain the hardware options available over the phone. Voodoo offers machines with two video cards, and the combination is four times faster than the Xbox 360's. Alienware uses the most modern Intel and AMD processors and graphics cards from NVIDIA and ATI.
