Title: Macromedia boosts Studio 8 strengths

Studio 8 from Adobe (formerly Macromedia) offers a number of enhancements and new capabilities for Web developers who work with both Flash and Dreamweaver. One of the biggest changes is that the suite no longer includes the Freehand drawing software, which has been replaced by Contribue 3 Web-content creation tool. The most significant enhancement in Dreamweaver is the addition of a Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) panel. Attaching a style sheet to a page and then accessing and applying rules via menus and double-clicking is simple to perform. Developers who like to work in the code view will find they can now highlight sections of code and then collapse them into one line, cleaning up the view as they work on other sections. Other new Dreamweaver features allow for enhanced ability to work with XML, Extensible Stylesheet Language (XSL), and Extensible Stylesheet Language Transformations (XSLT). Flash Professional 8 boasts improvements in usability, with an expanded stage work area. On the downside, the Help window is part of the Flash-environment, and would be easier to use if it were a separate window as in Dreamweaver. Flash now has more anti-aliasing tools and improved gradients and blending controls. An emulator is also included for developers creating Flash applications for mobile devices.
