Open Ratings Data Fusion service supplies companies with data management tools that assist in improving the quality of master data records and the construction of one view into supplier and customer relations. The service also provides analytics that can, for instance, compare the past and projected performance of suppliers. Intelligence tools identify patterns and directions and predict operational and financial health, as well as quality performance of suppliers. Such tools can help companies reduce supply chain risks considerably. For instance, United Technologies machine shops, which supply components to assembly sites, could not operate due to Hurricane Katrina. United Technologies supply chain was not hurt, but if it had been compromised, the company would have been ready because United has a strategic system that measures and watches performance of all its 23,000 suppliers. The system tells United Technologies when a problem crops up that could affect supply flow into any United businesses. United Technologies chose Open Ratings, which provides access to a complete database of records for more than 50 million companies globally. Problems have occurred with supplies, but were addressed by the system, which identified deficiencies, allowing United Technologies to work with the supplier as well as its raw materials supplier.
