Yahoo! Search Marketing is expanding the Yahoo! Publisher Network to small and mid-sized web sites to compete head on with Google's AdSense. From bloggers to medium online newspapers are being targeted with this program. Contextual targeting is one of the capabilities offered in this self-serve program that automatically offers revenue-sharing ads that match content on users' sites. They can also choose sites that don't automatically get matched, and they can block competitors' sites. However, industry analysts say Yahoo!'s offering is smaller than AdSense's reach. Yahoo! has been slow to build their network while Google has dominated the market. The main differences between the two platforms are price and ad categories. With Yahoo!, advertisers set their price, while quality of the lead and the bid is used with AdSense. Yahoo! offers more choice on ad categories than Google's program.
