Eclipse.org's Eclipse is the foundation of Insightful's S-PLUS 7.0 Enterprise Edition for statistical work, which is optimized for the S language and is included as the standalone S-PLUS Workbench. A discussion is provided of the use of S-PLUS for 7.0 Enterprise Developer (ED) for Windows. Advantages of S-PLUS 7.0 include its better responsiveness, particularly the ability to continue its use while long computations are ongoing. S-PLUS 7.0 handing is also better, probably because of Microsoft 4GT RAM tuning support. When S-PLUS is used under a version of Windows XP with a half a GB or 1GB of RAM, for instance, video adaptor operation is better. Another important enhancement in S-PLUS is the Big Data Facility, with which data are handled as the new bdFrame type through a binary cache on the hard disk, which serves as virtual RAM and is a separate and dedicated file. If the data set can fit in RAM, the user can choose at import time to either import conventionally or as a Big Data frame. Workbench offers development of tasks and projects, interaction with language engine and source control, monitoring of syntax, and editing of code. All the financial functions in S-PLUS 6.2 are also in S-PLUS 7.0 and are found in the financial library. The correlated Data library provides more reach in the areas of generalized linear models and maximum likelihood. Also available is Professional Developer (PD).
