Parasoft's Parasoft Jtest 7.0, an application testing toolset, gets excellent marks, especially for platform support, performance, scalability, and setup. Jtest 7.0 provides in-depth and robust Java application testing that allows users to do many tasks without any coding. The toolset is useful to a quality assurance department and to developers. Jtest 7.0 can be described as a Java-testing super-center that in one set of tools handles just about any Java component that can be developed, irrespective of its runtime requirements. Analysis is done statically and dynamically. Static analysis looks at the application's existing code to verify that it adheres to over 500 rules adopted from experts and coding standards. The test configuration can be modified to ensure that code is graded against a subset of the overall rule collaboration. For dealing with code found to be in violation, a description of the broken rule is provided, along with relevant explanatory notes. A Benefits section shows why the standard rule should be followed, and code examples show desirable and undesirable coding practices. Jtest 7.0 also includes a bibliography that identifies the source from which the rule came. On the dynamic side is automatic unit test generation. Jtest 7.0 comprehends design by contract and reads information included in the Javadoc comments that precede each method. The user has to tell Jtest 7.0 if a given result or runtime exception is the proper response of the module being tested. This is not difficult because Jtest provides good information with each reported result and mistake. With the Test Case Sniffer, Jtest 7.0 'really does provide both white-box and black-box testing.
