XOsoft's WANSyncHA 3.71 excels at data recovery, offering automatic fail-over and byte-level replication for file servers, SQL servers, Oracle databases, and Exchange servers. Installation is relatively simple, but configuration is not as easy since documentation tends to be spotty, leaving some issues to guesswork. Users can choose one of two scenarios: High Availability (HA), providing replication and automatic fail-over; and Disaster Recovery, which offers data replication only. The product's useful command line interface lets users create their own scripts and modify replication variables depending on specific conditions. WANSyncHA sends event notifications either by e-mail or logs them on the NT event log. However, the product lacks the ability to test the configuration to ensure that the e-mail process is correct, which could cause users to miss alerts for long time periods only to discover an incorrect configuration when a disaster has already occurred. Reporting options, while not stellar, are adequate and users can choose text, XML or HTML reports and reports can be posted on an intranet. While the product works generally well under pressure, users will want to ensure their environment is stable before using WANSyncHA in production mode to keep potential problems due to system changes at a minimum.
