Lawson Software's Lawson Technology 8.1.0 will include support for IBM WebSphere Application Server 5.1.1 and will enhance integration abilities. The product will support service-oriented architecture (SOA), say company spokespeople. Lawson has standardized on WebSphere to provide users with the ability to horizontally scale applications over multiple servers. A fall release will support WebSphere Application Server 6.0. Chance Veasey, a tester, user, and managed service provider, is satisfied with the standardization on the IBM application server, saying Lawson's development team previously had their own middleware and no abilities for multiple application servers per instance. Many Lawson users invested considerable resources to build Oracle Real Application Clusters for cluster ability and will now be able to have high availability both on the database side and on the application server level. The Lawson 8.1 release has a Web tier that makes considerable use of Java servlets and servlet technology to improve performance, including transactional speeds, throughout Lawson technology layers. The new release has more functionality for a role- and rule-based security system allowing segregation of duties. The Process Flow module can now include human review and approval in workflow, and the new Process Flow Integrator product integrates the new of abilities with more conventional application integration functionality from Lawson's Business Component Integrator. Therefore, human workflow input can flow between Lawson- and non-Lawson systems.
