IBM WebSphere Product Center 5.2, including WebSphere Commerce and WebSphere Portal components, are highlighted in a discussion of IBM's strategy in providing product information management (PIM) abilities that make it easier for retailers and manufacturers to link product, pricing, and promotional information across business systems. WebSphere Product Center 5.2 ships with WebSphere Commerce and WebSphere Portal to reduce the need for companies to use professional services to make products interoperate. WebSphere Product Center 5.2 is based on code acquired with Trigo Technologies and does collaboration, management, and dissemination of product information, including item descriptions, images, packaging specifications, and prices. Corporate Express, a company that sells office and computer products, plans an upgrade to the most recent release of WebSphere Product Center, saying the process of creating and update of often changed items catalogs, which include a total of 220,000 items, is expedited with PIM. Based on the responses of 350 surveyed PIM users, Yankee Group predicts improvements in the approximately range of 25% on average in the areas of customer service, collaboration with partners and suppliers, employee productivity, more available inventory, error-free purchase orders, and error-free invoices.
