SAP AG's CEO Henning Kagermann stated at the Sapphire user conference that a new business process platform called Enterprise Services Architecture (ESA) will be available by next year. MySAP applications will be the first ESA-enabled products. ESA will merge the Walldorf SAP application integration and application technologies into a business process platform. SAPs strategy will be to push plug-and-play nets of applications services to the forefront so that companies of all sizes can use them. When business processes are plugged into the network without difficulty, the user gains competitive edge and is no longer dependent. SAP will permit other business application vendors, including SAP's rivals, to plug into the business process network. Kagermann predicts that most customers will have integrated by 2010 or 2011, and SAP is extended maintenance for existing application for up to eight years from the usual three. A customer spokesman interviewed states that it could require a number of years simply to put a change management system in place and to replace existing applications links to legacy systems for his company, which is the result of a merger between two large oil companies.
