Harmonic Software's O-Matrix 5.8 (tested on Windows 2000 and able to run on Windows 98, NT, 2000, or XP IN ONLY 40MB hard disk space) should be considered, especially for ease of learning, easy editor invocation, and intuitive use for the C programmer, Matlab users, and Mathematica users, and low pricing. O-Matrix 5.8 is an object-oriented analysis and visualization tool for technical computing designed for scientists, engineers, numerical analysts, and students. While scientists might use other menu-driven programs or use IT-custom-coded programs, there is surely a niche for the other target markets (students, engineers, and numerical analysts). During testing, users worked for a few hours with the help section and a tutorial, after which the program could be used efficiently. The user began by copying and pasting from the tutorial and found the editor easy to invoke. O-Matrix 5.8 does not require that all code be in quotes or that each line end with a special character, and other features are also easy to use and straightforward. Engineers will be able to string routines together, many of which are provided, and to customize an analysis. Many free utilities, toolboxes, and add-ons are available. The Web site has considerably more information and a demo download.
