Wondertouch's ParticleIllusion 3.0, the most recent release of the particle effects package, gets excellent marks, especially for the inclusion of 960 preset effects that allow users to quickly create professional quality results much faster than with most other plug-in particle programs. The interface is intuitive and well-designed with a large Preview window that runs real-time examples of a particle that has been selected in the Library window. The Hierarchy window is familiar to anyone who works with computers. All particle editing is achieved after the user selects an attribute to be modified in the Hierarchy window and then tweaks it in the Graph window. Adjustments can be made in real-time as the particle effect plays back in the Stage window so that the user can see the change immediately. Editing in a similar way is straightforward, and users can without difficulty know what they affect as they add points to a graph line and increase or decrease the value. The user can also edit Emitter Properties, including color, shape, and orientation with a right-click in the Stage window, followed by selection of Properties. Deflectors, Blockers, and Forces are available for addition to a project and for affecting particles. Layers are used to import project organization and to ease integration of particles into background footage. Rendering is fast and easy, with support for motion blur and alpha channel, but not for the Shockwave format.
