Exact Software's e-Synergy, which requires Microsoft Internet Information Services and Microsoft SQL Server 2000, provides modules for management of customer relationship management (CRM), human resources, projects, financials, logistics, and workflow. e-Synergy earns excellent marks for providing midsize companies with a Web-based business management suite that is priced economically and is comparatively flexible. The most recent build makes e-Synergy easier to deploy and use. During testing, users could manage a corporate Web site, construct and manage programs for sales lead development, and manage an extranet for business partners that offered access to central application abilities. Back-office connectivity for divisions occurs in the e-HRM module, instead of in the system model, and e-Synergy's security model restricts access based on types of information. Native support is provided for other back-end systems from Exact, including Exact's accounting systems. A consistent component metaphor for e-HRM and e-CRM modules made it easy for testers to repurpose some elements in applications that were designed with form and workflow tools. The e-Financials module provides budgeting, an executive view, and reporting tools for consolidated company financials. Another effective feature is e-Synergy's support for synchronization of a user Outlook calendar with that user's e-Synergy calendar.
