Sony Pictures Digital's Vegas + DVD Production Suite gets excellent marks overall, especially for functionality that positions Vegas as a professional quality, all-in-one video and audio tool. The software suite includes Vegas 5, DVD Architect 2, and a Dolby Digital AC3 encoder. New features include the new 3D trackmotion feature, panning and cropping of events with keyframable Bezier masking, and import for Macromedia Flash files, Downmix monitoring allows users to preview audio. A joystick can be used for controlling sound panning, faders, and other effects. Support is provided for Sony DSR-DU1 and DSR-1000 video disc recorders and for J-H3 with 3:2 pull-down removal. Workflow is greatly improved with multiple docking windows, customizable window layouts, real-time event reverse, and enhanced application scripting. Network Rendering, with which testers could accelerate postproduction, is a particularly compelling workflow enhancement. Vegas+DVD Production suite ships with a full license for installation on one machine and two more rendering licenses for other machines on the network. With Vegas distributed network rendering, users can divide up the project in parts that can be rendered over multiple workstations. The project can be output for distribution via Sony's DVD Architect 2 DVD authoring application.
