Arubas Aruba 2400 Wireless LAN Security System, Bluesockets Bluesocket WG-1200, and Chantrys BeaconMaster 1200 are among reviewed wireless security systems. All the reviewed products feature an appliance-controller device that examines all data that move in both directions between a wired and a wired network. All four systems can be considered solid products and recommended buys. Aruba 2400, the editors choice, is rated highest for Security features and performance. Aruba 2400 and BeaconMaster 1200 share top honors for management and administration. Testers research indicates that there are five crucial wireless-oriented, security-associated functions that the four reviewed systems (which also include Meru Networks MC 1100 Controller) can handle. Merus package works only with the vendors access points, and the other products also support third-party access points. Bluesocket was tested with Cisco Aironet 1100 APs, and Aruba and Chantry offer their own APs. BeaconMaster is priced at the high end and also supports the most APs as well as a much wider wireless topology than the other providers. During testing, Bluesocket and Meru were tested with a switched, Layer 2 and VLAN-based technology connecting APs to their respective security controllers. Aruba and Chantry IP-routed all traffic from their APs to controller. The latter method is in general terms believed to be better for wider, geographically separated wireless networks.
