Google's Google Scholar and Yahoo! delivered OCLC World Catalog (WorldCat) to the public. These two events changed the concept of information access. These resources can be considered gifts with usefulness still to be determined. Google Scholar is an excellent concept that should help increase Internet information quality through a tool that everyone knows how to use. However, the beta release of Google Scholar seems to have a design more suitable for engineers than for scholars, publishers, or librarians. The first clue was the quote on the opening page, which is not cited or credited. This is not a good example for a site that deals with citations. Elsevier Scirus.com is more effective in speaking to the scholarly audience, but users, including libraries, will have to adapt to Google Scholar anyhow. Google says Google Scholar was created with the noble idea of giving back to the research community that helped Google on its way to search dominance. Google can reach that goal by giving Google Scholar the resources and attention it deserves.
