Mirra's Mirra Personal Server gets excellent marks for features that allow small, remote offices to back up their data easily and affordably. Mirra Personal Server is automated and provides features not found in most backup solutions, including remote access and file sharing with other users. The turnkey backup solution is available in 120G and 250G editions. However, Mirra Personal Server works only with Microsoft Windows systems, and its software works only with Windows 2000 and Windows XP. There is no centralized utility for installation Mirra software on client PCs from a central location. Installation was highly intuitive, requiring users to merely use a provided Ethernet cable to connect the Personal Server to a wired or wireless 802.11 router or network hub. With a provided CD, users easily install Mirra software on each computer to be connected to the Mirra server. Testers found remote access to be slow, and there was no difficulty gaining access to the Mirra server via a firewall. Users can manually specify any directory or set of files for backup. However, Mirra first offers to back up specific, critical sets of files, including My Documents, Favorites, Desktop, and Outlook Data folders.
