The second part of a discussion safety highlights selected strategies and organizations that deal with prevention of accidents and what should be done if injuries take place. Web sites and other helpful resources are available to offer information on elder abuse, child abuse, neglect, and maltreatment, physically impaired, safety of animals, domestic violence, and general social welfare tools. The many sites highlighted are a snapshot of a whole industry that has sprung up round the protection of human and animal populations. Some search engines work better than others in crawling social science Web sites. They keep an updated index of resources that cover the field of social work and social welfare. Among the better search engines for such purposes are AltaVista, Hotbot, WebCrawler, Teoma, and Fast Search. For browsing directories, Google, Yahoo!, EINet Galaxy, IncyWincy Social Work, and Dmoz can be consulted. Other locator tools include Wondir, Soople, Highbeam Library Research, Netnose, and Find Articles. Also highlighted are social science malls, gateways, and tools. Indexing and abstracting services, including PsycInfo/Psychological Abstracts and Social Science Citation Index, which are now full-text searchable databases. Some are available through Cambridge Scientific or ISI Web of Science -- Social Sciences. Trials are available through SageFullText or HW Wilson Social Sciences. Gale's 'Encyclopedia of Associations' also helps locate associations that cover Social Issues & Social Welfare, including Social Work.
