Idera's Idera SQLsoft and 1.2 Imceda Software's Imceda LiteSpeed 2005 are among databases used by database administrators. Goals of administrators are to protect data with powerful encryption and to reduce the size of database, which allows for faster backup. SQLsafe 1.2 gets fair marks, and LiteSpeed 2005 is rated excellent. However, SQLsafe 1.2 is a good choice for small- and mid-sized businesses (SMBs) if they do not have compliance requirements or need lock down for databases. Four encryption methods and four compression levels are sufficiently covered in SQLsafe 1.2, and a well-implemented console permits the user to view finished backups and status of current backups. However, the security opening exposed to SQL server devices by SQLsafe 1.2 is very significant and troublesome. In contrast, LiteSpeed 2005 provides full, customizable encryption, and is a full-fund reliable database backup solution that is an excellent choice for enterprises and for small- and mid-sized businesses (SMBs). A 64-bit version and soon-to-be-available multiplatform support round out the LiteSpeed 2005 product. Both products allow uses to centralize management and view failed backups. The LiteSpeed 2005 console is easer to read and provides at-a-glance views of database on the server that have never been backed up. With SQLsafe 1.2's console, the user has to go through many backups and search for each database.
