e-Security's e-Security 4.2, the most recent release of the management suite, gets excellent marks for all characteristics, but stands out for top-notch scalability. e-Security 4.2 filters data generated by intrusion detection systems (IDSs) to retrieve only what is important and pertinent. The resulting stream of information provides a real-time view of security status and tells users immediately when something goes awry with an enterprise network. Users can pinpoint suspect activity when it begins and also know when a hacker attempt is under way or when a worm begins to spread. e-Security 4.2 also knows when the system is open to an attack and gives expert guidance on security events and resolutions. e-Security 4.2 is a user-friendly tool for deluged IT managers who do not have the time or resources to dedicate an employee to oversee a security management system. Several parts of the solution merge with installed security devices, including firewalls, vulnerability scanners, and IDSs to create a very functional reporting fabric. Event information from the network reporting devices goes to one of many available agents on the e-Wizard server, and each agent is configured to receive information from a particular source. As many e-Wizard servers as needed can be used to monitor the whole enterprise. During testing, three servers sent data through e-Security 4.2. The system ran for a few days, and several penetration attempts were detected and shown graphically on the e-Sentinel management screen.
