Pronexus VBSALT 1.0 is a rapid application development (RAD) tool for Microsoft Speech Server 2004 and works well to abstract call flow from the Web application layer. Speech application creation is fast with VBSALT1.0. However, users will still require either on-board speech expertise or the services of an outside consultant for creation of highly advanced applications. VBSALT 1.0 is rated very good overall, with good marks for usability, performance, interoperability, scalability, and security, excellent marks for capability, and fair marks for manageability. The most important benefit of VBSALT 1.0 is its automatic generation and passage of SALT Forum's SALT (Speech Application Language Tags) to Speech Server 2004 when call flow diagrams have been created for a speech application. Companies with little or no experience in developing telephony-based applications will find VBSALT 1.0 to be useful in hastening application development. During testing, users determined that the graphical aspect of the call flow design system streamlined and eased creation of speech applications. When the visual design element was used to create SALT tags, coding SALT pages themselves became unnecessary. With VBSALT, each group of connections that comprises an application feature is organized on one page, and VBSALT 1.0 tools eased the construction of an application that had a logical flow. VBSALT 1.0 also worked well to organize escalation of prompts.
