DataCAD's DataCAD 11, a significant upgrade that makes the software operate at double numeric floating-point precision with accuracy up to 14 digits, gets excellent marks and is now as precise as AutoCAD and most other rival CAD programs. Almost all file extensions have changed, with AEC replacing the DC5 extension and a file format compression algorithm that saves files about one-fifth the size of equivalent DC5 files. Older drawings are converted to the new format when opened in DataCAD 11. Several new program interface improvements are also seen on startup, including a more Windows-compliant user interface and more Windows-like operation. The screen organization is flexible, allowing users to customize, re-position, and create new toolbars to meet the drawing needs of the user. Menu items have tips that show on the message bar, and multiple windows are displayed, including drawing views, menus, object viewer, toolbars, and others. A new Symbol browser provides a multi-panel window for access icons for symbols, and users can attach information to symbols as attributes and data fields. TINs (triangular irregular network) triangular polygons can be used for terrain modeling. A dialog box with a Windows 2000 metaphor is used to open and save files.
