The Object Management Group's (OMG's) Unified Modeling Language (UML) 2.0, a modeling language, and Business Process Execution Language (BPEL) for Web services is a variety of XML used to create Web services or a service-oriented architecture (SOA). UML is presently the unofficial standard modeling land used by agencies to for enterprise architecture modeling. FEAMS, the Federal Enterprise Architecture Management System, is maintained by the Federal Enterprise Architecture program management Office at the Office of Management and Budget. The Web tool permits federal users to browse a unified Federal Enterprise Architecture Framework model and shows agencies initiatives and business processes that other agencies might Windows NT to link to or emulate. Rick Thomas, Army Morale, Welfare, and Recreation's CIO, says EA data is beginning to provide return on investment. Information in the Popkin Systems Architecture repository assists in determining that requirements for a new business process, could be met by existing systems with little or no modification. BPEL for Web services (BPEL4WS) provides a method for taking information from an EA model, including related technical information, and converting it to a workflow or Web services implementation with few additional software development required. The enterprise architecture tools of Computas, IBM, InterSystems, Proforma, and Tibco Software are also highlighted.
