Borland Software's JBuilder X, Oracle's JDeveloper 10g, and DataDirect Technologies DataDirect XQuery are among products highlighted in a discussion of Java-based software for productivity enhancement. For instance, Agitar Software received a Duke Choice award at JavaOne for products that offer automated support for in-depth software testing. Agitar's Agitator workbench takes only minutes to find defects in manually written tests, even though such analysis would require at least a few hours of the time of a skilled developer. Agitar was able to build such a powerful tool because of the power of Java and the processor speed of 1-2GHz laptops. Java designers have excluded arbitrary pointers to data or to executables, which allows automated tools to use theorem-proving methods to understand the limits code's abilities. An example of the power of Java is JDeveloper 10g, which pops up a menu with a list of error handling structures that can be wrapped around a method, and the list is exceptionally correct and comprehensive because of the precise knowledge available to the tool. Such aids do much of the work for the programmer, says an expert, and they can ensure that offshore help is not needed to test code (because the work can be done by a cheap, tireless computer). DataDirectory XQuery, an embeddable module, integrates conventional RDBMSs with eXtensible Markup Language (XML) data sources via the XQuery language and the XQJ XQuery application programming interface (API) for Java.
