SecureWare Sanctuary Device Control 2.74 and Sanctuary Application Control Desktop 2.0 get excellent marks and are suitable for companies that want less granular access control to applications than will be provided with the upcoming SecureWave Application Control Custom Edition 2.8. The latter will have the fine-grained functionality that extends local authorization to individuals and groups, which will be of value to large enterprises in managing complex application security needs. Sanctuary Device Control 2.74;enforces astonishingly granular access policies for hardware components such as storage devices, printers and PCMCIA cards,' and uses a tree-based structure not unlike Windows Device Manager that permits users to scroll through a list of known device drives to write policies for specific nodes. Testers found it easy to create rules that were unbelievably specific, and they could put a quota on the quantity of data each user can export each day. Also provided is shadowing ability for creation of mirror images of all data written to external storage devices. Sanctuary Application Control Desktop 2.0 lacks the same level of fine-grained access control implementation, but users can create yes/no rules for domain users, and a whitelist metaphor is used to stipulate which applications can be authorized throughout the enterprise.
