Red Giant Software's Magic Bullet Suite, a creative environment in which digital video footage can be customized for output to DVD, TV, or film, provides various tools through an accessible and intuitive front end that is accessible via Adobe After Effects 5.5 or later. Rated excellent, Magic Bullet Suite has five tools: Magic Bullet, Looks Suite, Opticals, Letterbox, and Broadcast Specific. Used in combination, the tools permit users to de-interlace and de-artifact original high quality DV footage, to convert to 24 frames/second, to apply creative touches, to prepare for a film recording facility, and to make sure that the content is in compliance with industry standards for broadcast TV. Users open a New Project in After Effects and import footage, and then open the Interpret Footage window to deselect Separate Fields. The aspect ratio has to be set properly. And the user drags the project to Create Component, opens the Settings window, and changes the frame-rate to 23.976. In the Effect tab, Magic Bullet is then selected. A popup window with an Auto Set-up button shows, and when clicked, checks and verifies component settings and confirms that the user is configured to convert the footage. If the user only wants to de-interlace and de-artifact but does not want to convert to 24p, performance is greatly improved. Looks Suite is the standout feature set of Magic Bullet Suite and allows users to choose various looks that mimic those done with film processes and treatments often used in movies and TV, including Sepia, Bleach Bypass, and Color Reversal.
