Examining electronic gaming can lead to great insight on how children develop skills for information handling, creativity, strategy, and collaboration. While most adults and parents view gaming as a scourge and a hindrance to their development, there's a strong case for allowing children and even encouraging them to play electronic games. Being able to handle information loads is important because information is doubling every 11 minutes, according to Stephen Abram. Searching for information will require exploration, navigation, and discovery. This will be important when these gamers grow up and attempt to search through massive super- databases to find critical information to, say, find a cure for various diseases. Scientists will be employing video game interfaces as a model for exploring super-databases. Children can be enticed to write creatively by encouraging them to participate in research- driven creative writing activities such as Avatar. Quest- and adventure-style gaming allows children to problem solve. Games can help children develop team skills and collaboration. Social skills can be developed because many games have Web clubs and chatrooms set up. Simulation games teach children to learn basic rules to be able to interact within the simulated world.
