Citadel Security Software's Citadel Hercules 3.0, the most recent release of the vulnerability remediation system platform, gets excellent marks overall, especially for capability and interoperability. Usability, performance, manageability, security, and security are good. Citadel Hercules 3.0 has an enhanced administration interface and the new ConnectGuard quarantine feature. Because systems generate a non-stop stream of operating system (OS) and application patches and bug fixes, Hercules deals with them and also fixes unsecured accounts, unneeded services, and possible back doors and Trojans. With Citadel Hercules 3.0, administrators can deal with huge amounts of data gathered from popular vulnerability assessment platforms and can use their findings in proactive, automated scan-and-remediate sessions. Competing products now include BigFix with BigFix Enterprise Suite, which now takes care of many non-patch-related weaknesses; and PatchLink, which recently announced PatchLink Update's integration with Harris STAT (Security Threat Advanced Technology) Scanner. Hercules is raising the bar with such features as the ConnectGuard feature, which isolates mobile machines as the reconnect to the corporate new, to permit the Hercules remediation agent to assess them before allowing access to the remainder of the network. Platforms supported in Citadel Hercules 3.0 for client agents and fixes are AIX 5.1/5.2, HP-UX 11.0, and Mac OS X 10.2, which have been added to current support for Windows NT, 2000, 2003, and XP, Solaris, and Red Hat Linux.
